Why The Entrance to a Building is so Important

... Swing and Sliding Doors - The Bread and Butter of Automatic Entrances

There is no doubt that first impressions mean a lot, and that includes the entrance to your building. Regardless of the type of company, having a stunning building entrance will have a significant effect on the opinion your visitors form, and that could make a big difference to your business and its brand.

Over the years, the effect wanted seems to have changed quite a bit. In the past, the façade of important buildings, with their soaring gothic columns, statutes and perhaps the odd gargoyle or two, were, at least in some cases, designed to intimidate the visitor. To show them that they were entering a powerful realm and that the organisation or business was not one to be ‘trifled with’.

Today, however, things have moved on, and the uninviting lobby is a thing of the past. Plus, today, aesthetics count as much as functionality, all entrance areas need to create a positive setting for the visitor. Remember, people are quick to form an impression of your business and what it stands for, this making it vital to use the façade and entrance areas in a way that sets a positive tone.

Automatic Doors Are The Answer

One of the ways that the two, aesthetics and functionality, can be combined to the best effect is to use automatic doors. They both improve the image of your building by giving it a contemporary and sophisticated look, something that can both attract and impress customers and visitors alike, whilst at the same time allowing easy access. And it does not matter how old your building is, as automatic doors can complement old buildings as well as modern ones.

One area the glass automatic doors really excel in is that of light and illumination. There is nothing like natural light to create the right ambience, to frame the lobby / entrance area and make it warm and inviting. There is a trend to blur the line between being inside and outside, this allowing people to experience a smooth transition from outside to inside. And if you want to ride this trend, there is nothing better than a set of automatically opening glass doors.

Security Options

Things can be taken even further with the addition of security features like biometric access and other touchless forms of operation. These modern additions enhance the image of the building whilst also allowing for quick and easy access. Other security measures that can be fitted include time locks that only allow entrance and exits during certain hours. Other measures can be fitted that prevent tailgating, thus reducing any chances of any unauthorised access.

Thus by incorporating automatic doors with these security features, organisations and businesses can both improve and enhance their image and create that all important first impression for visitors and customers.

But which type of automatic door should you fit?

There are basically two main choices: swing doors and sliding doors. Each has pros and cons, something which does not make it any easier to choose between them.

Automatic Swing doors are like Sliding doors in that they are activated by a sensor located near the floor. When someone approaches the door the sensor signals the door controller to open the door. The door shuts when the sensor cannot detect anyone within its range. The difference is that swing doors open using a swinging motion, while sliding doors, as the name suggests, slide the door panels (there can be more than one) along a track to create the required opening.

Swing doors have the advantage of taking up less space, but the disadvantage of not really being able handle two-way traffic well, whilst Sliding doors take up more space, but are more suited to two-way traffic.

And if for one reason or another, both of these door types do not work for you, then there is a third type you could consider, that of automatic revolving doors.

Ease of access

Whichever type of door you think is best for your premises, all offer ease of access whilst also improving security and reducing energy costs. One of the ways that this touchless operation helps, even more, is that it increases hygiene levels. No one is touching doors thus the transmission of germs, viruses etc, is reduced to a minimum. Whilst not important in the case of entrance doors in general, it has great benefits in areas like hospitals, labs and clini

You can save energy too

Automatic doors of all types help prevent the loss of both heated air and cooled air from your premises. This saves energy by improving the total efficiency of your building’s heating and cooling systems. This has the side effect of reducing your carbon footprint, something that helps improve your all important green credentials.

Maintenance

Whichever type of automatic door you select, they will require maintenance. There is good news here too though, as in some cases these doors can be fitted with self-diagnostic features, these having the ability to detect any problems before they get serious and alert you.

That way you can call maintenance and get them fixed before there are any real problems. The issue of maintenance is not something to be really worried about though, as automatic doors require very little work to keep them operating safely.
